Summer Invasive Species Assistant Position:
The Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station is now accepting applications for an Invasive Species Assistant. This is a part-time, seasonal, eight-week position. The Invasive Species Assistant will work with the Preserve’s Stewardship Coordinator and seasonal staff and be responsible for invasive species removal and monitoring work as part of the continued implementation of the Huyck Preserve’s invasive species management and monitoring plan. The ideal candidates will have some experience with outdoor work and native and invasive plant species identification.

Responsibilities Include:
Working with other Huyck Preserve staff and volunteers to remove aquatic and terrestrial invasive species and to monitor new and existing populations of invasive species

Duration:
This is an eight-week position running approximately July - August (some flexibility is possible).

Salary: $15.00 per hour
On-site shared housing may be available and included in the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to navigate rugged terrain, and to carry and operate equipment needed to carry out land management operations
  • Willingness to be trained in operating weed and hedge trimmers
  • Interest in outdoor, physical labor
  • Ability to recognize or learn to identify native and invasive plants
  • Experience/interest in land stewardship

Other Requirements:

Use of a personal vehicle will be required.
All staff must adhere to the Huyck Preserve’s Covid-19 protocols and be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (accommodations may be made for medical or religious needs).
Finalists must successfully complete a criminal background check and DOT driving record check before an offer of employment is made.

Job Details:
This is a part-time, non-exempt, seasonal position, estimated to involve 32-hours of work per week.
