Are you looking to break into the field of conservation, but don’t know where to start? Consider spending 2026 in beautiful New Hampshire and joining the Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC), an AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for the next generation of conservation professionals. LRCC members are the driving force behind many of the conservation efforts of New Hampshire's Lakes Region.  The LRCC half year program features 4 actively recruiting host sites (see site details below), each offering unique experiences and opportunities to members.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Engage both youth and adults in environmental education and outreach programs.
  • Recruit and lead volunteer crews.
  • Work toward the eradication of invasive species in the lakes and watershed.
  • Maintain and construct regional trail networks.
  • And more, dependent on host site!

Host Sites:

Chocorua Lake Conservancy (2 positions available)
Tamworth, NH

Members will assist in community outreach and monitoring and caring for public access areas at Chocorua Lake and CLC-managed trails. The members will help facilitate stewardship volunteer events beside Chocorua Lake and on conservation land and trails, monitor conditions on trails, and perform light maintenance. This is an opportunity to be part of a warm, welcoming, and creative community in a beautiful location nestled between the White Mountains and New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, while learning about many aspects of the work of a small land trust. Housing provided. 

Newfound Lake Region Association (3 positions available)

Bristol, NH
Members of NLRA gain experience in watershed management, public engagement, professional communication, environmental education, and freshwater ecology. The work of Watershed Stewards includes collecting water quality data, leading environmental education programs, preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species, engaging with the public and other community members, and implementing projects throughout the watershed that improve water quality. Housing is provided.

Lakes Region Conservation Trust (3 positions available)

Center Harbor, NH

LRCC-LRCT members will receive training in land conservation methods, conservation and recreational land management, and education and outreach. Land Stewards will work on a variety of projects, including trail maintenance, terrestrial invasive plant removal, monitoring LRCT preserves and conservation easements, and more. Housing is provided.

Squam Lakes Conservation Society (2 position available)

Holderness, NH
Members serving at SLCS will receive training in conservation easement monitoring, land acquisition field work, all aspects of land management, and various methods of conserving new properties. Members will have the opportunity to develop and apply ArcGIS skills for use across all areas of the organization. Housing is provided.

All members have the opportunity to receive these trainings, certifications, and benefits:

  • Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications
  • Living allowance; $864.40 bi-weekly (pre-tax; $10,200 aggregate)
  • NH Commercial Boating License
  • Housing provided
  • Student loan forbearance and interest repayment for qualifying loans
  • Segal Education Award upon successful completion of the program and 900 hours: $3,697.50
  • Additional trainings provided vary by host site.

Minimum Qualifications as per AmeriCorps CNCS Guidelines:

  • Must be 18 years of age by May 18, 2026
  • Must be a US citizen, US national, or legal permanent resident
  • Must clear all required national service criminal history checks
  • Must be a high school graduate, GED recipient, or be working towards obtaining one before start of service term
  • Host sites may have additional requirements

Commitment:

May 18th, 2026 through October 28th, 2026. Members must complete at least 900 hours over the course of the program in order to successfully complete the program and receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.
