Willowsford Conservancy is hiring a Landscape Maintenance Technician to join our team and assist with the maintenance and repair of Conservancy trails, structures and land resources. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, applicants must have experience with landscape maintenance and be skilled in operating and maintaining vehicles, equipment and tools, including chainsaws, mowers, string trimmers, diesel trucks, flatbed trailers, etc. This entry-level position is full-time and year-round.

Willowsford Conservancy, a non-profit organization, is the long-term steward of approx. 2,000 acres of open space located within the Willowsford community in Ashburn and Aldie, VA. Conservancy lands include forest, meadows, wetlands, campsites, over 30 miles of trails, and approximately 300-acres of agricultural land.


  • Perform regular mowing and string trimming. Assist with tree removal.
  • Repair and maintain nature trails, small structures and land resources. Inspect and clear trails and other Conservancy land of over-growth, fallen trees, debris and trash.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, vehicles and tools. Perform routine maintenance and light repairs.
  • Other duties include, but are not limited to, event setup, firewood production, snow removal.

Working Conditions: The position requires extensive physical activity, including walking over rough terrain, standing, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, and managing equipment and heavy objects. Work is performed primarily outdoors in variable weather and work conditions. Occasional weekend and evening work required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a technical school preferred.
  • At least 1 year of directly related experience operating equipment, performing basic tree work, and completing relevant maintenance and repair, preferably involving parks, nature trails and open space.
  • Experience with small engine repair and good mechanical aptitude. Some experience with pesticide application. Carpentry skills preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, and to interact well with others.
  • Strong work ethic and interest in learning new skills.
  • Ability to maintain records and follow schedules, policies and procedures.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license, reliable transportation, and safe driving record.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment driving record check; background and reference checks; and random drug/alcohol screening.
