LANDSCAPE RESTORATION SPECIALIST POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
LOCATION: Washington Conservation District – Oakdale, MN
CLASSIFICATION: Specialist STARTING SALARY RANGE: $75,000-$90,000/yr DOQ
HOURS/DAYS: Normal business hours, Monday - Friday. May require evening and weekend meetings. Flex time and compressed work schedule available. Progressive hybrid telework options available.
STATUS: Exempt, full-time position with excellent benefits.

Washington Conservation District is accepting applications for a Landscape Restoration Specialist. This is an advanced position that is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to Washington Conservation District's best management practices (BMP), watershed analyses, water quality improvement, landscape restoration, natural resource planning, and stormwater management programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

1. Designing and implementing shoreline stabilization, stormwater management and other BMP projects.
2. Conducting watershed analyses to prioritize BMP implementation.
3. Managing project budgets and coordinating with partners (landowners, watersheds, cities, county, nonprofits, etc.).
4. Assisting with educational programs and writing reports, grant applications, and newsletter articles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, engineering, natural resources, or related degree and three (3) years of experience as a professional in the environmental field. Design and installation experience, including shoreline stabilization (including bioengineering), stormwater management BMPs, and landscape restoration. Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and design software (e.g. AutoCAD or Vectorworks). Experience with watershed assessment protocols, calculating pollutant load reductions and evaluating shorelines. Native plant community identification skills needed. Understanding of federal, state, and local rules and regulations governing water resources. Proven leadership skills, successful project management experience, presentation skills and attention to detail are critical. Qualified applicants will be self-motivated, show a commitment to high quality work, be excellent communicators and complete projects on schedule while dealing with diverse audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Five or more years of professional experience and an advanced degree in a directly related field is desirable. Registered Landscape Architect, or the ability to be registered within 1 year. Experience with stormwater/runoff modeling (e.g. P8 or WinSLAMM). Experience with conservation planning and land protection programs as well as grant development and management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves 50-70% indoor work with regular outdoor activities. Frequent position changes; lifting, pushing, and pulling requirement more than 50 pounds on a regular basis; exposures not limited to heat, cold, and wet conditions; and use of the senses of sight and smell are necessary in this work. Frequent interruptions and diverse daily activities. Equipment used includes telephone, desktop computer, copier, as well as field equipment such as survey units, GPS equipment, and laptop computers.
