The applicant will be required to perform a myriad of duties to include patrolling the park to enforce applicable state, local, and federal laws, present interpretive programs to the public and other employees, and the general care and maintenance of park equipment and facilities. The incumbent will be required to perform many of these duties in unpredictable and extreme weather conditions throughout the year. Responsibilities also include other assignments determined by park management to ensure the safety and success of Pecos Canyon State Park.
Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Criminal Justice, or Wildlife Management from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice, and/or wildlife management.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of parks and recreation management with experience in Law Enforcement.
- The candidate must be able to perform in stressful situations requiring prompt decision making with significant consequences.
- The candidate must have excellent communication, organizational skills, and be able to provide outstanding customer service.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalency and one (1) year of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice, and/or wildlife management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Must be certified NM peace officer or obtain Law Enforcement Certification as set forth in Section 29-7-6 NMSA 1978 within one (1) year of hire.
