CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Recreation Management Technician (Park Ranger) to join our team at the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR) in Florida. This full-time, salaried position plays a crucial role in the administration of the public hunting and recreation program at APAFR. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of recreation management, including permit processing, regulatory compliance, data collection, and public outreach. The main responsibilities are to help administer the public hunting and recreation program at Avon Park Air Force Range. These responsibilities include:
• Sell and process recreation permits (hunting, fishing, hiking, camping…etc.) according to standard operating procedures. Check incoming recreation users for compliance with regulations and maintain use records. Assure that users have proper permits and vehicle passes to use recreational areas. Provide safety briefings and inform applicants of regulations.
• Supervise another recreation management technician.
• Maintain accurate recreation reports and sign-in logs.
• Coordinate with Base Operations and post information on the recreational status on the installation status boards on social media official pages (e.g. Facebook, and the APAFR official website).
• Collect and record biological data from game species and harvested game animals.
• Conduct wildlife surveys.
• Electronically enter and process data.
• Public outreach and communication, including facilitation of public meetings and development and delivery of outreach presentations. Use social media for such purposes.
• Solve complex issues within the public hunting and recreation program.
• Manage and recruit volunteers.
• Answer phones.
• Assist staff and volunteers with cleaning and maintaining facilities and equipment.
This is a full-time salaried position, but work hours are variable, beginning as early as 4:30 a.m. and ending as late as midnight. Workdays can include weekends and holidays.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Required Qualifications:
• B.S. degree in parks and recreation management, wildlife management, or closely related field.
• Experience in wildlife surveys and the collection of biological data from game animals.
• Experience with interaction with the public in an official capacity.
• Experience with public outreach and communication, including the use of social media for such purposes.
• Experience with general office administrative procedures such as filing, computer data entry, and telephone etiquette.
• Experience in cash management.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
• The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
