Position Title: Facilities and Maintenance Individual Placement (640 Hours)

Position Summary:

The Lewis and Clark National Historical Park is recruiting one, 640 hour (16 weeks) Facilities and Maintenance Individual Placement, beginning July through October 2026 to be located within Astoria, Oregon. Starting date is negotiable to accommodate student schedules. The individual placement will assist with buildings, trails, and log preservation projects.

About Northwest Youth Corps (NYC):

Northwest Youth Corps was created in 1984 to offer teenagers and young adults an education-based, work experience modeled after the historic Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930's. Today, we serve over 1,000 youth and young adults each year across a four-state region who restore critical habitat, build trails, lead volunteers, and educate youth and young adults to learn, grow and experience success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Trail Maintenance (30%)
    • Duties may include removing vegetation, constructing log or rock drains, and using hand tools.
  • Constructing Physical Infrastructure (30%)
    • Duties may include building bridges, turnpikes, causeways, or rock retaining walls.
  • Building Maintenance (20%)
    • May include janitorial or electrical duties.
  • Tool Cleaning and Repair (10%)
  • Training (10%)

Required Qualifications:

  • Ages 18 to 30 (up to 35 for veterans)
  • U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
  • Must pass a background/driver check
  • Must have a high school diploma/GED
  • Ability to work outdoors, hike, and work in inclement weather across uneven terrain
  • Willingness to work as part of a team in an outdoor setting
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Responsible for caring for and maintaining equipment and working tools
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and up to 150 lbs with assistance
  • Current Driver's license, a clean driving record, and personal transportation
  • A positive attitude

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic hand tools and gas-powered motors/equipment
  • Basic knowledge of one or all of the following: carpentry, groundskeeping, plumbing, and electrical

Duty Location:

Primary duties are performed within the Lewis and Clark National Park. With seven sites on both sides of the Columbia River in Washington and Oregon, the park includes wetlands, upland forests, coastal dunes, and prairies. Annual visitation is more than 250,000 visitors.

Terms of Employment:

One Individual Placement will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting July through October 2026 for a total of 16 Weeks. The individual placement will average 40 hours of labor per week, minus holidays.

Individual placements are responsible for providing their own personal transportation and food.

Program Benefits:

Individual placements will earn $9,600 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis throughout the 16 weeks.

The living allowance is taxable.
