The California Energy Commission seeks a Load Flexibility Policy Lead in the Efficiency Division's Load Flexibility Branch!
We are looking for an experienced energy policy professional to lead the development, analysis, and implementation of state load management and flexible demand appliance policies supporting California’s transition to a clean, reliable electric grid. This role involves evaluating and shaping state, federal, and international energy policies; producing high-quality reports and regulatory documents; and leading complex technical, economic, and environmental analyses related to decarbonization, electric generation, and grid reliability. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and confident in advising senior leadership and policymakers, representing the agency in regulatory proceedings, and coordinating with partners across government and industry. This position will also provide leadership and guidance to junior staff in standards development and rulemaking processes.
What you need (Eligibility):
1. 4-year degree
2. Four years of progressively responsible technical energy experience in electric generation system planning design, evaluation, or operation field, including three years of experience above the trainee level. A Master's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Sciences or other closely related field, may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Individuals with two different recognized graduate degrees (each of which constitutes a full degree program in one of the areas shown above) may substitute this achievement for two years of experience.

- Proven ability to lead standards development and rulemaking processes.
- Strong policy, regulatory, and analytical skills with effective communication to decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement, public speaking, and representing an agency as a subject matter expert.
- Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and mentoring abilities.
