longleaf pine ecosystem restoration in the central Gulf Coast region of southern Alabama or northwest Florida. The Longleaf Forester plays a lead role in representing The Alliance to our external audiences and delivering technical assistance and training in many forms to best support these key functions across the range of longleaf restoration. The efforts include, but are not limited to, direct technical assistance to landowners and managers to provide the best information available to meet their needs and their objectives for longleaf restoration, and training through The Alliance’s signature Longleaf Academies, workshops, field days, and webinars. The successful candidate will also have opportunities in special projects where their unique skills can best advance TLA’s restoration objectives. Overview of Duties: The Longleaf Forester is directly responsible for providing timely and science-based responses to requests for assistance through a variety of methods, including phone, email, question line, or site visit. This professional also plays a key role in the support of landowner incentive programs, and in the delivery of the Longleaf Academy program, taking the lead where assigned on Academies, or providing high quality instruction in a supporting role. The Longleaf Forester will develop and lead workshops and field days as components of numerous grants; these may occur across the nine-state range as opportunities to collaborate arise. Training outreach is also accomplished through brochures, flyers, webinars, and articles for publication in The Longleaf Leader or other publications. Presentation skills and leadership are also demonstrated through a variety of Longleaf Alliance events, including the Biennial Longleaf Conferences.
Qualifications: Applicants must have, at a minimum, a college degree in forestry, and at least four years of experience in the management and restoration of longleaf pine. An advanced degree in a compatible field is desired. Applicants must have a demonstrated passion for the longleaf ecosystem, an excellent personal and professional reputation and credibility in the Southeastern US conservation community. A demonstrated ability to create effective relationships with staff, partners, landowners, donors, state and federal agencies, NGOs and other key constituencies is essential. This position requires strong initiative, organizational, and people skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. The ideal candidate would have a working knowledge of and/or experience in longleaf forest management and ecology, in the training and teaching of natural resource conservation, and in the broader role of forestland management in the Southeastern United States, with a preference for a registered/certified forester.

• Computer fluency, especially in the full MS Office suite. ArcGIS skills are preferred.
• Impeccable integrity, judgment, commitment, and discretion.
• The physical requirements of the tasks of this position can be strenuous, requiring lifting and carrying of items up to 50 lbs.; the position also requires outdoor work at times in weather conditions ranging from ideal to arduous.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• This job will at times require some evening and weekend activities (especially advance planning and after-action record keeping).
• Applicant must be willing and able to travel extensively across the longleaf range.
