Raymond Waterways, a non-profit organization devoted to lake health in Raymond, Maine, is hiring a Manager for our Courtesy Boat Inspectors (CBIs) Program for the summer of 2026.
CBIs staff 4 boat launches in town and carefully and faithfully inspect boats–from kayaks and canoes to large pontoon boats– for invasive weeds and species. They fill out paper and/or electronic forms to submit to RW and the state DEP under the guidance of the Manager. CBIs work shifts from 5-12 hours (with breaks) on Thursdays-Sundays, preferably from Memorial Day-Labor Day.
The Manager position is for someone to both serve as a CBI and to oversee the program and its staff, from Thursday-Friday, for a total of 36 hours per week, from Memorial through Labor Days. The Manager will reschedule coverage and fill in themselves when necessary
The Manager will:
- Help hire, and train staff and volunteers
- Attend a day of training on May 1 in Augusta
- Make a master schedule in May, after consulting with CBIs hired
- Frequently check boat launches in town to insure coverage and adherence to expected procedures
- Submit RW and DEP reports and payroll requests, and
- Report to the RW CBI Coordinator and Board of Directors.
Training is free and mandatory in person on May 1 in Augusta
Job Requirements:
The CBIs represent the face of RW and the DEP, and are on the frontlines of preserving lake health.
Therefore, the CBI Manager must be:
- Able to motivate and supervise the CBIs
- Able to complete payroll, DEP, and RW requests and reports
- Available for in-person training in Augusta on May 1
- Great at working with all members of the public, with a positive, outgoing attitude
- Able to learn how to identify possible invasive species
- Available: Thurs-Sun, for 5-12 hour shifts, from Memorial through Labor Days
- Reliable with reliable transportation
- Dedicated to working consistently and thoroughly to help preserve lake health
- Abie to stand or sit for long periods and move sandwich boards once or twice each shift
