SkyTruth is a conservation technology nonprofit that harnesses satellite technology and AI to expose environmental threats and accelerate climate action and biodiversity protection. Since its founding in 2001, countless organizations around the world have used SkyTruth’s tools to promote conservation efforts and to hold polluters accountable for harmful activities that would otherwise remain hidden from view.

We equip advocates, journalists, policymakers, and other changemakers with free, accessible, and innovative tools that focus on the following areas:

• Exposing hidden pollution at sea and identifying the polluters. Cerulean is a fully-automated global monitoring system for ocean oil pollution that uses satellite imagery and machine learning to identify oil slicks. Cerulean also uses AIS ship location broadcasts and offshore oil platform locations to reveal who is responsible for the pollution.
• Accelerating global biodiversity protection. The 30x30 Progress Tracker makes it easy to understand how the world is progressing toward protecting 30% of land and ocean by 2030 — and how effective those protections really are. Designed for advocates, journalists, policymakers, and non-specialists alike, the platform answers key questions: Are we on track towards this global goal? Where are the gaps? And are protected areas delivering real ecological outcomes?
• Powering climate action. We work to reveal the true cost of fossil fuel development and extractive activities to turbocharge climate advocacy and polluter accountability. We transform data into actionable insights to bridge the gaps between changemakers,  technology solutions, and real world impact.

About the Position

SkyTruth seeks a proactive, detail-oriented, and effective Manager of Philanthropic Partnerships to join our dynamic and thriving team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Manager of Philanthropic Partnerships will lead and manage all aspects of our grants program.

SkyTruth has tripled in size over the past four years, reflecting the growing demand for our data-driven tools and insights. As environmental challenges mount, so does the need for credible information to guide policy and action—and our capacity to deliver it continues to expand. We’re looking for a grants professional to help build on this momentum by securing the support that makes our work possible. The ideal person for this position will bring a strong track record of success along with enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and discipline in taking on the grant-funded sustainability of future organizational growth.

As SkyTruth’s sole team member dedicated exclusively to fund development, the Manager of Philanthropic Partnerships will focus primarily on grants—from identifying and pursuing opportunities to shaping funding strategy and ensuring compliance with funder requirements. They will be supported by leadership and key program staff in positioning the organization to secure and steward institutional funding, and in ensuring our work is communicated clearly, credibly, and compellingly to current and prospective funders.

Key Responsibilities

• Fund Development and Grant Prospecting. Identify, research, and evaluate potential funding opportunities that align with SkyTruth’s mission and programs. Maintain a robust pipeline of prospective funders, tracking deadlines, strategic fit, and priorities. Collaborate with leadership on initial outreach and relationship-building.
• Funder Relationship Management. Build and sustain strong relationships with current and prospective funders through regular, proactive communication. Ensure funders are kept informed and engaged to support continued and expanded funding.
• Grant Management and Reporting. Oversee the full lifecycle of active grants, ensuring SkyTruth remains aligned with funder expectations and deliverables. Coordinate with program staff to track progress toward commitments, flag risks or delays, and support timely course corrections when needed. Manage reporting schedules and requirements for both single- and multi-year grants, and maintain an internal calendar of all deadlines and deliverables.
• Grant Writing and Submission. Lead the grant application process from start to finish—assessing requirements, managing timelines, and coordinating contributions from program and operations staff to ensure timely and high-quality submissions.
• Financial Coordination. Work closely with the Director of Operations & Finance to develop grant budgets, support accurate financial reporting, and contribute to internal forecasting and revenue tracking.
• CRM & Data Management. Maintain accurate and current records in the CRM database related to grants, funders, and donor activity. Use the CRM to support timely follow-ups, reporting, and performance tracking.
• Other Fundraising Activities. Process donations from SkyTruth’s small but committed base of individual donors, send acknowledgment letters, and help maintain donor relationships. Collaborate with operations staff to ensure accurate recording of donation income. 
• Additional Responsibilities. Take on other duties as assigned to support the development function and the overall success of the organization.

Key Attributes and Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in grant writing for a foundation, nonprofit, or other type of publicly supported organization.
• Demonstrated track record of funding success from foundations.
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, track tasks, meet deadlines, organize time and identify resources for projects as needed.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (English language), including the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and engage confidently with program officers and donors.
• Direct, supportive approach to communications with colleagues.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in both writing and data management.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative, while remaining responsive to team needs.
• Strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.

Desirable

• Documented success securing funding from foundations and donor-advised funds on behalf of environmental nonprofits—especially those focused on climate or technology.
• Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for grantmakers and other non-technical audiences.
• Experience managing grants and reporting workflows within a CRM.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.).
• Strong alignment with SkyTruth’s mission and a demonstrated passion for conservation.
• Prior experience working in a remote or globally distributed team environment.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time salaried position with an expected salary range of $90,000–$110,000 with final compensation depending on skills and experience. SkyTruth’s robust benefits package includes a retirement plan with generous company match, 4 weeks of paid vacation, ample sick leave, 12 paid holidays, a break between Christmas and New Year’s, and 100% covered health, vision, dental, disability, and life insurance for employees. Location 

SkyTruth is a fully remote organization working across multiple time zones, so working hours may vary according to geography as well as operational and personal needs. Candidates can be located anywhere in the United States and must be able to reliably accommodate meetings across North American time zones. The supervisor for this position is based in the Eastern time zone. Periodic travel may be necessary, and team members are expected to attend in-person team retreats that are typically held twice per year.

Our Interview Process

Top candidates will be invited to a one-hour interview. This may be followed by a brief take-home exercise (1–2 hours) designed to demonstrate writing skills and strategic thinking. Finalists will then participate in a second interview with the position’s supervisor and members of the SkyTruth executive team.
