The Marketing and Development Officer (MDO) works closely with ASA leadership and staff to develop, oversee, and enhance marketing and fundraising strategies related to the organization’s research, conservation, and environmental education activities in Peru. The MDO works as part of a diverse and interdisciplinary team of biologists, conservation professionals, and others from Peru and all over the world. This position is a residency position, meaning that the successful applicant will live and work on-site at Finca Las Piedras, the ASA’s main research center and base of operations in Madre de Dios, Peru.


Development of the ASA’s marketing strategy for educational programs (e.g., internship & volunteer programs, biodiversity expeditions)

  • Oversee marketing strategy for the ASA Internship Program in career center and related platforms
  • Develop a strategy for the promotion of Volunteer Program & expeditions
  • Promotion of Finca Las Piedras as a site for research & educational programs
  • Manage paid advertising across diverse social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

Development and management of the ASA’s fundraising strategy and activities (corporate & individual donors)

  • Develop a strategy to reach out to individual donors
  • Manage and enhance donor outreach via corporate donor platforms

Assist ASA leadership & staff in the development of digital strategies

  • Development of digital strategies across various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Youtube
  • Assist in the creation of original content related to the ASA’s work in research, conservation, and environmental education


  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communication, journalism, business or finance, international development/relations or related. Biology, conservation/environmental science or related degrees will also be considered.
  • Strong oral & written communication skills
  • Experience in the non-profit sector preferred
  • Must be comfortable living and working in a developing country (Peru) and a rural setting
  • Five month commitment required
  • Fluency in English required
  • At least basic Spanish preferred
  • Traveler’s insurance (proof required upon acceptance)


Upon arrival at Finca Las Piedras the MDO will undergo an intensive one-week training period during which the successful applicant will be familiarized with the ASA’s work in field research, conservation, and environmental education, as well as the organization’s marketing and development needs.


Compensation is US$500 per month, plus full room and board at Finca Las Piedras. Although work is M-F room and board are provided 7 days per week. Local, work-related transportation is provided, including one-time pickup and dropoff at the Puerto Maldonado airport (PEM) or bus terminal; the MDO is responsible for domestic and/or international travel to Puerto Maldonado.
