Sycamore is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation organization headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana, that has been preserving land, restoring habitat, and connecting people to nature in southern Indiana since 1990. We protect and care for over 11,000 acres, offer free public hiking trails and educational opportunities, and are proud to be accredited by the national Land Trust Accreditation Commission.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced individual to join our team as a part-time Membership Coordinator to help administer an established development program that supports our nature preservation and environmental education efforts. This position will administer the membership program, coordinate fundraising mailings and digital campaigns, maintain our donor database, prepare reports, and assist with processing gifts. The Membership Coordinator is an integral member of a team of eight professional staff, collaborating with over 1,200 annual supporting members and hundreds of volunteers to fulfill Sycamore’s mission. This position reports to the Development Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foster strong relationships with donors, prospective donors, and community partners.
  • Coordinate mail and online solicitations and other communications that focus on retention, renewal, and recruitment of members.
  • Assist with processing and acknowledging donor gifts.
  • Maintain an accurate donor database in Little Green Light and track Sycamore’s relationships with donors, prospective donors, volunteers, and other constituents.
  • Provide database support to all programs as requested by Sycamore staff and Board members, including data entry, importing and exporting, generating reports, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Development Director and Communications Director on development-related messaging and review other public communications.
  • Assist with the development of printed and digital membership marketing materials, membership program promotions, and fundraising appeals.
  • In collaboration with other staff members, coordinate a year-round program of membership events that engage current and prospective members.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of special donor events, including the Annual Celebration and Holiday Party.
  • Represent Sycamore at various public outreach events and meetings in order to recruit new members.
  • Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor including in electronic and written communications.
  • Provide support to the Development Director as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and two or more years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word, Google Suite, and other common office software.
  • Experience with databases and other Constituent Response Management software preferred (i.e. Little Green Light, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Mailchimp).
  • Ability to engage and work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Effective communication skills, including written, verbal and listening.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Self-directed, with the ability to lead as well as function as a team member.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and activities.
  • Enthusiasm for conservation and the mission, goals, and values of Sycamore Land Trust.
  • Experience with conservation fundraising is preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver’s license, demonstrated safe driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

COMPENSATION

This position requires 24 hours of work per week with compensation of $15-$18 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a part-time, non-exempt position with some benefits including paid sick time, Simple IRA with employer matching, travel reimbursement, and a comfortable office located in a beautiful mid-century modern house on a wooded property on the edge of Bloomington, IN.
