The Nestucca, Neskowin & Sand Lake Watersheds Council is looking to hire a part-time coordinator to oversee the monitoring program and manage outreach. The Watershed Council’s mission is to work in partnership with private and governmental stakeholders to improve the environmental health of our watersheds, to benefit those who live and work within their boundaries and the fish and wildlife that depend on them. The primary responsibilities of the Monitoring and Outreach Coordinator are to oversee the bacteria and temperature monitoring program, assist the director with restoration projects, and coordinate outreach events. Reports to: Executive Director
Duties include:
- Oversight of the bacteria monitoring program (bimonthly lab work, occasional field work, volunteer management, use of excel and R for reporting)
- Oversight of the temperature monitoring program (deployment, field auditing, and retrieval of loggers, data analysis and submission, contact with landowners)
- Organization of our Science on Tap community events (three each fall and spring)
- Organization/creation of an annual fundraiser
- Weekly posting on social media
- Working with partner agencies to support their work and collaborate on projects
- Reporting to the board at monthly meetings
- Attending meetings of partner organizations/community groups to strengthen visibility and collaborations
Ideal candidates will have the experience or knowledge to carry out the tasks listed below:
- Carry out field work wading through rivers
- Use applications like ArcGIS, R, Excel, Wordpress, Facebook, Instagram
- Data analysis
- Assist with project management and oversight
- Volunteer management and coordination
- Event planning and coordination
- Reporting of monitoring data to agencies
- Ability to work with stakeholders in a respectful and engaging manner
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to work independently
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb
- Ability to work in streams and rivers in all weather conditions
- Must possess valid driver’s license
