The Department of Wildlife, Sustainability, and Ecosystem Sciences at Tarleton State University is seeking 1-2 Master of Science student(s) to perform research on developing and validating distribution models of identified rare plants in Texas. The study focuses on developing best predictive models of rare plant species’ distributions based on available ecological and observation data, and validating the models with field data. As part of the graduate training, the student may teach or assist with one or more sections of various natural resource science laboratories or classes, depending upon his or her qualifications.

Qualifications: Position requires a B.S. in ecology, wildlife, natural resource management, ecosystem sciences, biology, biostatistics, or other closely related field.  The successful applicant will have strong interest in species distribution modeling. Experience in ecological modeling is desired, but not required. 

Expectations: The successful candidate is expected to complete a M.S. at Tarleton State University within 24-26 months. They will prepare a monthly progress reports and other periodic research progress reports as required by the funding agency throughout the project duration. Candidate is expected to produce a professional level final project report by the end project. They will also produce and successfully defend a thesis and publish results in refereed journals.
