Position Overview

The Native Habitat Operations Manager oversees and leads Get Outdoors Nevada’s Native Habitat Program, serving as the primary steward of program strategy, implementation, and quality across Native Habitat sites in Southern Nevada. This full-time supervisory role is responsible for guiding environmental education, partner engagement, and impact reporting while ensuring the program operates effectively and consistently.

This position owns the full lifecycle of the Native Habitat Program, from seasonal planning and habitat maintenance to planting events, teacher training, curriculum development, and program evaluation. The Operations Manager acts as the program’s primary public representative and collaborates closely with the leadership, staff, municipal partners, educators, contractors, and volunteers.

In this role, the Operations Manager provides clear direction, structure, and workflow coordination to part-time Native Habitat Program Coordinators and plays a key role in shaping the program’s growth, quality, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategic Implementation

  • Serve as the primary lead and subject-matter expert for the Native Habitat Program.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to implement strategic priorities, growth plans, and goals.
  • Identify opportunities to expand and/or maintain Native Habitat programming in schools, parks, neighborhoods, and underutilized lands across Clark County.
  • Maintain a thoughtful, comprehensive long-term vision for integrating ecological restoration and environmental education at habitat sites. 
  • Ensure program goals align with organizational strategy, funder expectations, and community needs.

Program Operations & Seasonal Planning

  • Develop and manage the annual and seasonal program calendar, including maintenance events, plantings, training, native seed collection, workshops, and related work.
  • Coordinate and deliver annual maintenance events with municipal partners, ensuring strong logistics, materials, staffing, and educational integration.
  • Ensure habitat sites meet GON quality standards for ecological health, safety, and public presentation.
  • Integrate environmental education, interpretation, and stewardship into all site-based activities.

Education, Curriculum & Training

  • Lead and oversee training for staff supporting the Native Habitat program, ensuring consistent practices and skill development.
  • Instruct participants in native plant installation, pruning, soil preparation, seed harvesting, irrigation setup, invasive species removal, and site care.
  • Coordinate Native Habitat Teacher Trainings (approximately two per year), including scheduling, logistics, materials, facilitation oversight, certificates, and partner coordination.
  • Oversee the development and refinement of curriculum guides supporting place-based, experiential outdoor learning rooted in Mojave Desert ecology.
  • Provide on-the-ground mentoring for staff, facilitating habitat field trips and volunteer programs.

Partnership Development & Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary program representative in meetings with municipalities, school districts, community groups, funders, and partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with agencies, nonprofits, nurseries, contractors, and community leaders.
  • Collaborate with partners to assess site needs, develop stewardship plans, and implement long-term improvements.
  • Represent the program at public events, conferences, workshops, and outreach opportunities.

Impact Reporting & Data Management

  • Manage all impact reporting for the Native Habitat Program.
  • Coordinate photo documentation, program statistics, narratives, and integrate materials into visuals, summaries, annual reports, and grant deliverables to be used in reporting and/or promotion. 
  • Analyze site performance and program outcomes to inform improvements and strategic decisions.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual summaries for leadership, funders, and Board reporting.

Internal Coordination & Organizational Support

  • Provide planning, structure, and workflow coordination for part-time Native Habitat staff.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Programs, Communications team, and program staff to align messaging, staffing, and storytelling.
  • Monitor inventory and oversee the purchase of program supplies and materials, ensuring adherence to the agreed-upon budget.
  • Contribute program data and narratives to grant proposals and reports.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support or co-lead large planting days, partner events, and special projects.
  • Assist with signage and interpretive content development.
  • Oversee seed quality control, including cleaning, packaging, storage, and distribution.
  • Perform physical fieldwork, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in varied weather.
  • Maintain tools, irrigation components, and program supplies.
  • Occasionally staff outreach tables and support public education efforts.
  • Capture photos and documentation for reporting and communications.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Mojave Desert ecology, native plants, and habitat restoration practices.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience coordinating programs, events, or curriculum-based outdoor education.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Comfort leading groups of adults and youth in outdoor settings.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and deliver under seasonal timelines.
  • Passion for community engagement, environmental stewardship, and inclusive education.
  • Experience with public speaking or community presentations.
  • Professional communication with external and internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in environmental studies, natural resource management, urban studies, ecology, horticulture, or similar. 
  • Experience in training, mentoring, and evaluating staff.
  • Experience with basic program evaluation and data reporting. 
  • Being bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
