One Natural Resources Technician (Seasonal Worker, Full-time, 40 hours/week) position is available with the Colorado State University (CSU) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position will provide support to the natural resource programs at Offutt, McConnell, Peterson, US Air Force Academy, Buckley, Ellsworth Air Force bases, and possibly others in the rocky mountain and great plains regions. This position is intended to expose the intern to as many aspects of natural resources management as possible over a summer semester term. The intern will accompany professionals and researchers in the fields of fish and wildlife biology, forestry, agriculture, geospatial analysis, outdoor recreation management, and other fields.  The intern will complete a "special project" using data they have collected to assess an issue and provide recommended solutions to assist the Air Force in management of the resource.

Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule with multiple day/overnight independent travel.

 

  • Wildlife surveys and/or management
  • Vegetation surveys and/or management
  • Invasive species monitoring and/or management
  • Habitat restoration and/or management
  • Wetland delineation
  • Trail maintenance
  • Timber sales
  • Outdoor recreation
  • Field-data collection, entry, and/or management
  • Writing and editing technical reports
  • Data analysis and/or mapping using ArcGIS
  • Public speaking
  • Resource condition assessments and project/action impact analysis
  • Spatial analysis and spatial modeling

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have an interest in pursuing a career in federal lands management.
  • Must be physically capable of working independently in outdoor locations under varying weather conditions.
  • Pursuing a B.S. in natural resources-, cultural resources-, ecosystem science-, or environmental policy-related field (at least a senior standing).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for operating federal vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a Department of Defense Installation Access Pass.

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. citizenship; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
