Position Description
This position supports the management and growth of the Watershed Health and Resiliency Program, with a focus on leading water quality and streamflow initiatives. Key responsibilities include overseeing monitoring efforts related to streamflow, water quality, and water quantity; analyzing and interpreting data; preparing reports; and developing and maintaining standard operating procedures.
The role also contributes to the implementation of riparian restoration projects, supports public outreach and education efforts, and assists in addressing agricultural water needs, including irrigation support. This position plays an important role in strengthening the connection between watershed health and agricultural practices. Approximately 40% of the work is conducted in the field, with the remaining 60% performed in an office setting.
The Resources Water Technician II must be able to work both independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong interest in conservation and natural resource management, is adaptable and eager to learn, and contributes effectively in both individual and team environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the collection of water quality and streamflow field data using electronic equipment, including GPS units, tablets, laptops, data loggers (e.g., TidbiT), flow meters (e.g., Swoffer), data transducers, HL4s, and other digital tools.
- Collect field measurements using hand tools and manual methods that support stream and watershed health assessments.
- Assist in the implementation of conservation projects, including planting, in-stream restoration work, noxious weed treatment, and other field-based technical activities within water and agricultural programs.
- Enter, manage, and maintain data in various software systems, including Microsoft Excel and the Washington State Department of Ecology’s Environmental Information Management (EIM) database.
- Support the development and expansion of FCCD’s Watershed Health and Resiliency Program by enhancing data collection efforts, identifying funding opportunities, and coordinating with the Program Manager to advance watershed health initiatives within WRIA 50.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with public and private entities to support multidisciplinary planning, implementation, and monitoring of watershed priorities identified in District annual and long-range plans, as well as the WRIA 50 Watershed Plan.
- Manage and implement cost-share projects that promote water conservation and efficiency in irrigated agricultural systems.
- Assist in managing and reporting data for the Douglas County Voluntary Stewardship Program (VSP).
- Support youth and community education efforts, including K–12 and adult programming, and assist in the development of outreach materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
