Position Summary:
Join our team as a Naturalist Sea Kayak Guide and share the beauty and ecological significance of the San Juan Islands with guests from around the world. You’ll lead small groups on guided sea kayak adventures, interpreting local wildlife, marine ecosystems, and conservation challenges while ensuring a safe, fun, and memorable experience on the water.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead day and multi-day kayak tours in the San Juan Islands.
- Provide engaging natural history and conservation interpretation, including marine mammals, seabirds, intertidal life, and island ecosystems.
- Model and teach Leave No Trace principles, sustainable travel, and wildlife viewing ethics.
- Ensure guest safety through expert kayak handling, route planning, and risk management.
- Assist with trip preparation, gear maintenance, and post-trip debriefing.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of Pacific Northwest marine ecology, wildlife, and conservation issues.
- Previous guiding or outdoor leadership experience preferred; ACA/BCU certifications a plus.
- Confident paddling skills in coastal or open-water environments.
- Excellent communication, storytelling, and group management skills.
- Current First Aid/CPR; Wilderness First Responder or equivalent preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $115–$300/day depending on tour type and experience.
- Campsite housing available.
