The Round Lake Area Park District is seeking seasonal Nature Program Instructors!
Are you interested in working in parks and recreation, or environmental education? Are you interested in nature-based education or conservation? Our seasonal recreation instructor position is the position for you!
The Prairie Grass Nature Museum and Round Lake Area Park District are seeking seasonal recreation staff to work on a variety of programs this summer. The Nature Museum Educator position is focused on leading and/or assisting in Nature camps and programs for mainly school-age children. Positions are a seasonal hourly position (12-16 hours per week, some weeks will include 18-22 hours per week). The position will run June - August 2026.
What you will do:
The Nature Program instructor is also responsible for planning and running child-friendly programs under the direction of the Outdoor Education and Nature Museum Coordinator (OENMC). Interest in working with children and nature topics required. Training and materials provided.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Recreation and/or environmental education experience or volunteer work desired.
- Must be able to work within a team setting.
- Must be able to prioritize safety.
- Comfortable working with and handling live fish and bait.
- Experience with camping, hiking, ponding, and crafting desired.
Duties include:
- Assists Nature Museum Supervisor and other staff in program preparation and instruction of recreation programs.
- Attends to the needs of the program participants.
- Follows all safety guidelines related to the programs, equipment, program expectations, and the Park District.
- Recognizes and reports any unsafe conditions to their immediate supervisor.
- Assists in supervision and upkeep of the recreation garage, equipment, and rentals.
