Classification: Full-Time with benefits. The incumbent must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed.

Salary:  Starting range from $75,000 to $85,000+ based on experience

Reports to: Executive Director and NDASCD Board of Supervisors

Travel: Travel is primarily local with some area travel for occasional meetings

Summary

This position will work directly with the Executive Director and the Nursery Operations Manager of Lincoln Oakes Nursery. The Lincoln Oakes Nursery is owned and operated by the ND Association of Soil Conservation Districts. The Association works on behalf of the 54 County Soil Conservation Districts in North Dakota with its main objective is to provide quality tree stock for conservation installation. Lincoln Oakes Nursery is a forest tree nursery who specializes in deciduous tree stock. The nursery performs all tasks from selection of seed sources, seed collection, propagation, sales and shipping. The direct tasks included within this job description include the tree production program, chemical application, tree sales and distribution, budgets, purchasing, planning, soil health, and nursery staff.

General Functions

  • Administer the Tree Production Program
  • Incorporate a soil health program for stock beds
  • Knowledge and capabilities of chemical applications to address disease and insects
  • Coordinate annual training needs and supervisory roles to nursery staff
  • Coordinate and schedule field production activities with the nursery staff including: seed collection, soil management, seeding, transplanting, lifting, grading and packaging
  • Direct sales manager in activities including stock inventory, UPS shipments and pick-ups and reconcile tree sales transactions
  • Manage a nursery budget – balance expenses with income from tree sales
  • Develop future projections for seed collection and planting
  • Knowledge in irrigation systems to ensure adequate water monitoring on stock
  • Provide a clear direction and feed back for the nursery staff to ensure superior quality of work and on-time completion
  • Availability for on site field tours and educational events to customers and our Soil Conservation Districts
  • Strong knowledge base in identifying insets and diseases with the nursery operations along with our customer base
  • Develop systems to ensure inventory is closely monitored and accounted
  • Work with any other agencies, organizations, or nursery operations as they relate to nursery operations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Directing equipment and grounds maintenance
  • Maintain crop insurance records on field stock

Working Conditions and License Certification

The incumbent works in the office and in the field. Must be able to operate motorized field equipment along with office applications.  A valid driver’s license is required. Commercial pesticide applicator’s licenses in greenhouse, ornamental turf, and right of way categories are required.

Physical Demands

  • Use of equipment and lifting to plant and maintain trees
  • Working outside or in warehouse facility with either hot or cold conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications - Major field of study or degree emphasis (will consider years of experience in a related profession)
