ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC) has operated in Idaho since the summer of 1992. ICC is a part of the Northwest Youth Corps (NYC), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth and young adults to become successful, resilient members of their communities. To achieve this, ICC provides a variety of outdoors, conservation service programs to youth and young adults throughout Idaho emphasizing education, leadership, and personal growth. Since 1984, NYC/ICC and its resource management partners have provided opportunities to over 20,000 youth and young adults to learn, grow, and experience success. NYC’s programs serve over 800 youth and young adults annually, with programs operating in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California.

NYC engages youth and young adults from all walks of life and provides a multifaceted experience that helps propel them into future opportunities and careers. Hard and soft skills are taught and reinforced throughout the member’s term through a formal practical trainings and mentorship of partners and NYC staff.  NYC strives to provide program participants the skills and competencies needed to succeed in a wide variety of professional environments and life circumstances.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Coordinator reports directly to NYC’s Operations Director. The operations department provides support to all departments within Northwest Youth Corps regarding food, tools, and equipment to operate NYC’s field programs. Operations, logistics, and field support are the most pivotal responsibilities of this job. This person will be responsible for the planning and distribution of food to all of our camping based programs. This person will also be responsible for the basic maintenance of our vehicles, chainsaws, camping equipment, and hand tools. The position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented person. This position requires a hard working employee in good physical condition who is a self-starter, able to identify projects and carry them to completion with minimal supervision. Attention to detail and concern for quality is an absolute must.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Includes planning, procurement and packing for programs based in Boise. The coordinator is also responsible for maintaining vendor relationships, analyzing current food prices, and distributing menus.
  • The Operations Coordinator must also be comfortable working within the budget and tracking purchases.
  • Weekly responsibilities include ordering food, re-portioning and packing food into boxes/coolers to be distributed to field crews. Other responsibilities include: tool, vehicle, and facility repair and maintenance. These duties can range from tool organization to repairing chainsaws to assisting with driving errands around
  • Will assist the State Manager in the logistics and movement of tools and food to programs in the field
  • An ideal candidate for this position is highly motivated and able to adapt to the varying demands of the Operations Department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record as some travel will be required.
  • Prior experience with inventory control, logistics work or experience working with outside vendors
  • Previous experience which demonstrates organizational skills, the ability to perform at a consistently high level under pressure, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and familiarity with a wide range of challenges.
  • Experience in conservation corps or trail work is preferred.

Terms of Employment

This is a part time season position. Typical hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00 PM.  Workload varies weekly and will require long days and/or evening and weekend responsibilities periodically.
