OPS - Marine Biologist

University of Florida

Gainesville , Florida

Candidate will be responsible for offshore sampling and laboratory processing of marine invertebrates as part of a study on the impact of beach sand dredging off the east coast of Florida (Cape Canaveral). Sampling primarily includes benthic trawling and benthic grabs, but will occasionally include water and plankton sampling. Laboratory and analytic responsibilities will include processing of trawl samples (sorting, identification, and measurement) and database management. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to assist with scientific presentations and preparation of scientific manuscripts.

Candidate must have a B.S. in marine sciences and prior field experience. Candidates with experience field sampling (e.g., trawling) and identifying marine invertebrates preferred. Flexibility in travel schedule is a must since the weather determines the field sampling schedule (including some night-time and weekend work).

This is a temporary grant-funded position that ends September 2019.  There is a possibility of extension through end of 2019, if funding is available.

Salary: $24,000/yr, limited benefits
