What We Can Achieve Together:

The Ormond Beach Restoration Associate manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods focused on habitat restoration and public access infrastructure implementation, fundraising, planning, and monitoring for a geographic area within the California Business Unit (BU) at Ormond Beach in Ventura County, California.   

The Ormond Beach Restoration Associate will coordinate all aspects of the implementation of Phase I of the Ormond Beach Restoration and Public Access Project Plan (OBRAP), working in close conjunction with the existing Santa Clara River & Coast (SCRC) team and project partners the State Coastal Conservancy and the City of Oxnard. The OBRAP project will restore natural habitats and processes that support a dynamic and self-sustaining ecosystem at Ormond Beach, while enhancing opportunities for people to easily and safely visit Ormond Beach. This position will coordinate a critically important coastal wetland restoration opportunity in Southern California. This position is currently funded for a four-year term with possibility for extension. 

We’re Looking for You:

The Ormond Beach Restoration Associate provides technical leadership and support by assisting the SCRC Restoration Manager with planning and implementing the 650-acre Ormond Beach Restoration and Public Access Project. They address critical threats to natural systems and individual species, and supply conservation planning teams with site or landscape level information relevant to the planning process. They develop and implement conservation strategies, and implement a variety of strategies to secure public and private funding and support for TNC conservation priorities. They coordinate community support and maintain preserve areas frequented by the public.

The Restoration Associate will oversee all design and construction activities needed to ensure the OBRAP project is implemented per plan, on schedule, and on budget, while achieving the restoration and public access goals, community uplift, and partnerships it was designed to deliver. The Associate works cooperatively with the SCRC team to develop applications for local, state and federal grant funding, negotiate grant agreements, and develop and manage subawards to contractors and consultants conducting habitat restoration and public access design and implementation.

The Restoration Associate has a collaborative, team-oriented attitude, an interest in fostering relationships with local communities (including tribal members, farmers, industry, and conservation practitioners). The Associate demonstrates a strong ability to manage multi-sourced budgets with extensive reporting obligations. They also periodically provide informational field tours explaining project goals and achievements to donors, legislators and public funders.

What You’ll Bring:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•    B.A./B.S. degree and 5 years of experience in natural resource management or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
•    Habitat restoration and project management experience
•    Experience negotiating complex agreements.
•    Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.                      
•    Familiarity, understanding, and/or background with engineering practices and contract management.
•    Experience managing complex projects, including staffing, workloads reporting, and finances under deadlines.
•    Experience in partnership development and communications with non-profit partners, tribal partner, community groups and/or government agencies.
•    Reliable mode of transportation to get to the project site in Oxnard, CA.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•    Spanish language skills.
•    Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
•    Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation. 
•    GIS proficiency
•    Technical knowledge and/or background in large scale habitat restoration.
•    Experience working with public agencies at the local, state and/or federal levels, with regulatory compliance and permitting. 
•    Experience in fundraising/grant writing.  
•    Community engagement and outreach experience with nonprofits and community groups.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $70,500 – 82,825. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA and state of employment is California.

Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's location, qualifications, skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
