Connecticut Audubon Society seeks to hire a paid intern on a seasonal basis between 07/07/26 – 10/16/26. This individual will report directly to the Conservation Science Team and work on the Connecticut Audubon Society Osprey Prey Study. This research project aims to utilize cellular trail cameras to capture photographic data from within osprey nests across the coastline of Connecticut. This data will be used to quantify the species, size, and caloric value of fish prey items being delivered to osprey nests by using image analysis techniques and online databases. The successful applicant will be expected to regularly maintain the camera network using a web-based app to check battery life and SD card capacity, while organizing photographic data in cloud-based software. It will also be a requirement of the applicant to organize and analyze images of osprey carrying fish prey submitted by the public. Applicants will be expected to drive to other osprey nests and monitor nests for prey deliveries.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in creating and organizing datasets.
- Experience with image analysis techniques and relevant software such as ImageJ.
- Knowledge pertaining to osprey ecology.
- Experience with trail cameras.
- Their own vehicle and ability to drive to osprey nests across the state of CT.
- Their own camera and experience photographing wildlife.
- Ability to use computer software such as Microsoft Office and Outlook.
The successful applicant will work 30 hours a week at $17.50 per hour. Applicants are subject to a background check per Connecticut Audubon Society’s hiring policy.
