At Deer Hill, our mission is to empower individuals to create an authentic connection to self and community through wilderness and service experiences. We have been operating in the Southwest since 1984, rafting, canoeing, backpacking, and otherwise exploring. But what truly sets us apart is our element of cross-cultural service. Over the past 40 years, we have been building relationships with families on the Navajo Nation and in Hopi and Zuni Pueblos. We believe that connecting our students with the folks whose land they're traversing is an incredible and necessary part of building a relationship with the land.
Deer Hill Field Staff act as the primary guides for 12 - 20 person youth wilderness immersion and reciprocal service learning experiences 1-3 weeks in duration. As a Field Staff, you will work alongside your team to prepare for each trip, orient participants to necessary skills and expectations, and guide your group into authentic connection with self, others, and place as they progress through their experience. Field Staff's primary responsibility is effective risk management, followed by creating fun and informative memories for their participants through games, activities, and lessons. An excellent Field Staff will utilize experiential teaching tools to transfer ownership, empowerment, and conservation attitudes to their students.
