The Discovery Instructor position at Camp Allen is a full time seasonal position with limited openings for single-semester positions. Our school season typically starts mid August and runs through to the end of May. This position requires long hours, extensive training, adaptability, patience, and a positive attitude every step of the way. 

As a Discovery Instructor, you’ll be trained to belay, lead challenge course activities, facilitate classes and programs, animal ambassador handling, NASP archery trained and certified, Red Cross Lifeguard certified, and take on a variety of other responsibilities that support the Discovery Outdoor Education experience.

Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have U.S. Work Authorization
  • Have a bachelor's degree OR relevant experience working with youth/in an outdoor setting
  • Flexibility to work outdoors in all weather conditions and adaptability for varied days
  • Stamina and athleticism to manage long hours and physical tasks, including standing for extended periods, hiking, handling heavy equipment, high ropes facilitation, and back to back educational instruction.
  • Comfort with heights and handling animals Though we do not require our instructors to climb or obtain L1 certification for our ropes course, it is a requirement to be willing to train on belaying and be willing to handle all ambassador animals, including reptiles, insects, and birds.
  • A passion for working with children and the curiosity to explore and teach new things
  • An open mind and a fun-loving attitude that creates a positive learning atmosphere

Compensation:

  • Free housing (private bedroom, shared living space) and utilities
