Little River Wetlands Project (LRWP) is a non-profit organization focused on wetland protection, restoration, and education in the Little River watershed in Northeast Indiana.  LRWP manages over 1,300 acres of restored and natural wetlands in areas once known as the Great Marsh.  LRWP serves our region with free wetland education opportunities that served over 7,000 participants in 2025.  We have a dedicated team of staff, donors, and volunteers engaged in wetland stewardship and education.

The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator serves as LRWP's primary community engagement and communications professional. This role coordinates public events, manages digital communications, supports donor and volunteer engagement, and helps build awareness of LRWP's conservation mission.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting people to nature, building community partnerships, and helping advance local conservation efforts. The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in inspiring public support for wetland protection and environmental education across Northeast Indiana. 

Responsibilities:

 Event Planning:

  • Lead planning and coordination of LRWP's major fundraising and public events, including Frogapalooza, Monarch Festival, Earth Day, and other community engagement activities.
  • Manage event logistics, including vendors, registrations, permits, sponsors, volunteers, and event-day operations.
  • Coordinate event committees and maintain effective communication with staff, volunteers, board members, and community partners.
  • Support event fundraising goals through effective planning, sponsor stewardship, and participant engagement. 

Communication

  • Share LRWP's conservation, education, and community impact through digital and print communications.
  • Manage website content, social media channels, and event promotion.
  • Develop engaging content that strengthens public awareness and community involvement.
  • Support newsletters, donor communications, and media relations.

Database management

  • Maintain constituent and program databases to ensure accurate records and effective communication.
  • Generate reports and analyze participation data to help evaluate outreach and engagement efforts

Marketing and Merchandise

  • Use branded merchandise and promotional materials to increase awareness of LRWP's mission and programs.
  • Coordinate product design, inventory management, and merchandise sales at major events.
  • Monitor sales results and support outreach and fundraising objectives.

Perform other duties as requested.

Job parameters

  • Works collaboratively with other staff members and Board committees.  Reports to the Executive Director.
  • This is a part-time position of 10-15 hours per week. 
  • Compensation $15-$17 per hour, depending on experience
  • Flexible scheduling is available, with occasional evening and weekend events 

Qualifications:

  • Two years of professional or volunteer experience in communications, event planning, nonprofit outreach, marketing, or related fields. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered. 
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and content creation
  • Experience with website content management systems, Canva or similar design software, and Microsoft Office. Experience with Wix is a plus. 
  • Familiarity with MailChimp and Little Green Light platforms, or ability to learn
  • Prior non-profit experience is desirable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be organized and able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines/priorities
  • Self-motivated professional with enthusiasm for conservation, environmental education, and community engagement. 
  • Comfortable serving as an ambassador for LRWP and building relationships with community members, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and partner organizations. 
  • Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with diverse audiences, stakeholders, and community partners.
