Organizational Background
The Upper Columbia Salmon Recovery Board (UCSRB) is a nonprofit corporation formed to serve as a regional salmon recovery organization and to coordinate and implement the Upper Columbia Spring Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Recovery Plan. One of seven regional salmon recovery organizations, UCSRB is directed by a five member board with representatives from Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan Counties, the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, and the Yakama Nation. The UCSRB staff executes the organization’s mission through three key programs: science, forest health, and recovery plan implementation, and provides support to multiple partners within the Upper Columbia region.
Job Description
The Outreach Coordinator and Program Assistant plays a key role in the UCSRB team by implementing UCSRB’s outreach strategies, supporting a well-organized, fast-paced and professional office environment, and coordinating requirements for the UCSRB Board of Directors. The position will work independently and, at other times, in close coordination with other team members to help the UCSRB implement program initiatives and achieve organizational goals and objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- coordinate logistics, draft agendas and preparation for meetings of the UCSRB Board of Directors including notetaking, meeting summaries and follow-up, as necessary
- perform outreach to state and federal legislators to facilitate legislative engagement and coordinate regional site tours
- track relevant legislative developments at the state and federal level and work with other staff and partners to coordinate a response, as necessary
- provide support to UCSRB program managers and Executive Director, as needed
- assist with planning and executing biennial Upper Columbia Science Conference and other organization events, including project field tours
- assist with regional partner engagement, including strategic communications with local, state, federal and tribal government partners, and other non-governmental organizations
- participate in meetings and coordinate activities with the Wenatchee Watershed Outreach Subgroup
- perform data entry using Excel, QuickBooks and web-based systems
- help maintain and improve web-based tools and databases
- assist the finance manager and executive director in maintaining internal controls associated with a $1 million annual budget and grant contract management
- write and curate content for UCSRB newsletter “The Stream”
- plan and implement UCSRB podcast “The Stream,” including writing interview questions, conducting interviews, taking editing notes, and managing post-production
- work with the Executive Director to plan and implement UCSRB’s communications and outreach strategy
- conduct other public-facing outreach activities including tabling at events such as Earth Day
- additional tasks and activities as requested by the Executive Director
- option to participate in meetings with the Salmon Days subgroup of Washington Salmon Coalition to plan Salmon Days legislative advocacy in Olympia at the beginning of February
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, biology, communications, business management, administration or related field or a minimum of two years related experience.
- demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
- strong communication, organizational and coordination skills
- ability to self-manage deliverables and timelines with multiple and overlapping tasks.
- highly organized and detail-oriented
- experienced in the use of all Microsoft Office applications.
- familiarity with WordPress and/or related website management software.
- video editing skills.
Compensation
This position is 40 hours/week. The starting pay range is $22-$25/hour, based on experience, plus full benefits, including retirement, medical, vision, dental, vacation and sick leave. This position is based in Wenatchee.
