The Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference is seeking to retain a part-time staff person to assist with a variety of both outreach and administrative functions. Outreach duties will take place at sites in Nassau and Suffolk County such as trail locations, community events and libraries. The administrative functions will take place at our office in Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown, New York.

Candidates ideally should:

• have an interest in the environment and hiking
• be willing to learn the LIGTC’s mission and basic functions
• enjoy reaching out to local colleges, organizations, and media
• be proficient in using social media platforms
• be organized and able to work independently
• be comfortable using Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
• possess good verbal and written communication skills
• have a working knowledge of group email systems such as Mail Chimp or Constant Contact or be willing to learn, and some knowledge of QuickBooks is a plus
• possess a high school diploma, with some college or a degree preferred

Responsibilities include fostering our mission and volunteer base by reaching out to local organizations, officials, and media, maintaining an accurate database of memberships and volunteers, working with social media, representing LIGTC at on-site and off-site events, organizing information for our quarterly newsletter, and a variety of office tasks.

The position is part time, expected to be 20-25 hours a week, with a work schedule to be determined. Work may include parts of one or two Saturdays a month. Compensation is on an hourly basis, at a rate to be negotiated.

Our office is accessible by stairs only in a historic building. Smoking is not permitted. Candidates must also be able to access trails and carry presentation equipment.
