Position Overview
Chikaming Open Lands, a land trust operating in Berrien County, Michigan, seeks an Outreach Naturalist. The Outreach Naturalist assists and supports the Education and Outreach Manager in the development and implementation of education, outreach, and volunteer programs and activities designed to raise community awareness of Chikaming Open Lands’ (COL) mission. The Outreach Naturalist may also participate in communications, marketing, stewardship, and other activities as needed. The position reports to the Education and Outreach Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Education and Outreach Programs: Assist with developing, planning, and implementing outreach and educational programs and activities for youth and adults.
- Volunteer Coordination: Assist with recruiting and organizing volunteers for COL activities.
Ancillary Duties and Responsibilities
- Communications, Marketing, and Stewardship: Assist with production and management of outreach communications, including print and digital media. Assist with other marketing and communications activities, as needed. Assist with stewardship programs and activities, as needed.
- General Administration: Manage paper and electronic files and databases. Provide general clerical and administrative support, and other duties as assigned by the Education and Outreach Manager or Executive Director.
Qualifications
The successful applicant shall have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, biological sciences, natural resources conservation, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of higher education and experience. One (1) to two (2) years previous experience in land conservation or environmental education is desired. Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal/communication skills are mandatory. Requires the ability to collaborate with a team and interact with a wide variety of audiences, including children. Requires proficient computer skills and knowledge of web/social media content management. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends is required. Ability to work in an office environment and in an outdoor field environment is necessary. Must possess a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and the ability to use a personal, insured vehicle for work. A passion for land conservation is essential.
