Thompson and Associates Wetland Services (www.thompsonwetlands.com) in business since 1998, provides environmental assistance on wetland and water related projects primarily in southeastern Wisconsin. We are a small firm, with opportunity for you to grow in your skills and knowledge.
We are currently looking to fill a part time permanent position starting June 15, 2023 (flexible starting date). The major portion of the work is to assist in environmental oversight of utility projects in southeastern Wisconsin. Work is performed in your home, with some field work as well. The position is ideal for a person looking for part time, flexible work. Hours could be expanded in summer and fall months for other field work and wetland projects if desired.
Hours are ~16-24 hours a week. The applicant must be able to view and interpret mapped data to assist with determining if wetlands, streams, rare species, and other environmental factors are present in a mapped project area. Mapped data may need to be field reviewed; training will be provided to learn how to identify wetlands in the field. The position also requires learning, interpreting, and applying for various state, federal, and local regulatory guidance. You will have an opportunity to observe wetland delineation and other wetland projects. Compensation includes hourly wage, vacation days accrual, mileage and supplies reimbursement and paid educational opportunities. The cost of health insurance coverage could be included.
Additional hours may be added to this position depending on skills and interest. We are looking for the right candidate who values independence and can work on their own. Training will be extensive. This is an hourly position with benefits. Starting hourly wage is $18/hour however the pay could increase if the candidate has relevant experience.
We are looking for:
- Located in South East Wisconsin
- Enthusiasm for environmental work and desire to learn new skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to read and interpret on-line maps and spatial data (or aptitude and desire to learn).
- Ability to learn to field identify wetland vegetation and determine if a wetland is present.
- Attention to details and efficiency in computer work is important.
- A 4 year degree or higher with a focus on geographic information services, ecology, botany, water resources or related field.
- Good environmental ethics and interpersonal skills are desired.
- Reliable transportation, driver’s license and car insurance required.
