OVERVIEW

The Freeway Park Association (FPA) seeks an outgoing, creative and compassionate person to join our team as a Park Operations Coordinator. (Schedule varies +/- 32 hours per week to start. $24-27/hr DOE) 

FPA has been a community steward to Freeway Park since 1994. In partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, FPA activates and advocates for Seattle’s largest and most iconic downtown park. We design programs and services that meet the needs of all park users as we welcome everyone into our shared back-yard to create connections and enjoy arts, culture and nature in the heart of the city. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Park Operations

  • Manage FPA’s relationship with Seattle Parks & Rec (SPR) and other City agencies regarding park operations, maintenance and safety.
    • Lead collaborative work in the park with SPR Concierges and Park Rangers
    • Represent FPA at ongoing meetings with SPR’s Center City team
  • Lead FPA’s partnership with outreach providers and social services agencies assigned to Freeway Park and surrounding neighborhoods.
  • Lead FPA’s daily/weekly data collection in the Park.
  • Ensure observations are done regularly 
  • Ensure program/event counts are done regularly
  • Ensure intercept surveys are distributed to visitors regularly and at events
  • Ensure that collected data is recorded regularly
  • Submit quarterly reports to ED on data collection
  • Ensure park areas are clean and free of debris during work shifts and prior to special events/activation.
  • Manage in-park storage areas, equipment and supplies. Track and order supplies as needed.

Park Activation

  • Manage set-up and break-down daily programs and activations in the park including park amenities (chairs, tables, signage, etc.) community chalkboard and other regular. activations. Coordinate with Program Coordinator and seasonal FPA staff as needed.
  • Assist FPA team in set-up and break-down special events in the park  including on some evenings and weekends.
  • Assist FPA team in program development and brainstorming sessions to develop creative and engaging programs for the park. 

Outreach

  • Act as a lead ambassador for the park, ensuring a friendly and helpful environment for all park users.  
  • Co-lead the work of in-park staff, including FPA Summer Ambassadors and SPR Concierges. 
  • Engage with vulnerable groups present in the parks in a humanitarian and compassionate manner while ensuring the safety of the park. 
  • Manage distribution of outreach/marketing materials in and around the park. 
  • Support FPA Program Coordinator with Marketing/Outreach goals as needed. 
  • Act as an ambassador for FPA at a variety of partner committee meetings.
  • Conduct public presentations and park tours when needed. 

FPA Operations and Executive Director Support

  • Staff FPA Safety and Social Services Committee
  • Coordinate quarterly meetings with a large group of stakeholders.
  • Record meeting notes and minutes
  • Assist in annual reporting process

AND

  • Other commensurate duties as assigned. 
  • Participate in programming and have fun!

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Interest in public spaces, parks and community service. 
  • Must be a true "people person," comfortable talking to small groups, individuals, and potential partners. 
  • Must be good with details and organizational systems (experience with Excel/Google Sheets is preferred).
  • Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages and abilities. 
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, demonstrating diplomacy and tact under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, energetic learner interested in working in a small team of multi-taskers.
  • Knowledge of and/or comfortability working in an urban environment.
  • Knowledge of (or experience in) a compassionate equity approach to social services.
  • Willing to work outside in all-weather conditions for long shifts.
  • Willingness and ability to lift and move heavy equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. 

Desired

  • Experience with outreach in a social services and/or humanitarian capacity. 
  • Experience building/managing spreadsheets with Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Interest in and demonstrated experience with volunteerism.
  • Experience working in an outdoor setting. 
  • Customer service experience.

DETAILS

This position is permanent, non-exempt, hourly. Schedule is flexible and hours will vary according to the season and will include some nights and weekends.

  • Due to the nature of our work, FPA requires the majority of job duties to be done onsite (in the office/in the park). Remote work is possible but minimal.
