Job Title: Park Technician B (Fayette County Parks)
Reports to: Director of Parks & Planning (DoPP)
Hours: Monday-Friday 40 hours per week. Occasionally after hours and weekends.
Location: Fayetteville, GA Travel: 60% local travel, 40% regional travel. Park Crew utilizes company vehicle.
Supervisory Responsibilities: NA, periodic volunteer, education program, and outdoor recreation participant management.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Natural Resources, Parks & Recreation, Environmental Education, or related field or experience. An active interest in and curiosity about the natural world and its conservation are preferred.
Experience: On-the-job training will be provided when possible, but candidates with experience in operating, maintaining, and transporting equipment (tractors and implements), using power tools and chainsaws for trail building, invasive plant removal, tree care, and basic carpentry are preferred.
Position Summary: The Park Technician must be a team player who is able to adapt to dynamic situations with a willingness to attempt new things. They must be willing to take instruction well but often work independently. Under the direction of the DoPP this position will complete a variety of maintenance and development tasks, including but not limited to:
Park and Nature Area Management
- Monitoring land, built structures, forest health, stream sediment and water levels, and trail erosion
- Make necessary repairs to trails and structures promptly, including the removal of fallen trees
- Monitor, report, and remediate any visible safety hazards
- Identify areas at public nature areas in need of improvement and make recommendations to the DoPP as needed
- Assume the lead role in maintaining tools and equipment as needed
- Landscaping at parks and FEEC -Mowing, weed eating, brush cutting, leaf blowing, edging, herbicide/ invasive control, cutting over-growth on trails, etc.
- Perform tasks dictated by restoration and/or forest management plans
- Provide leadership and direction during Volunteer Events, Outdoor Recreation Programs, and Education Programs
- Serve as a liaison/ambassador between the Southern Conservation Trust and the public
- Ensure policies and procedures are followed by visitors
- Light grading and road repair
- Ensure cleanliness of all managed facilities and grounds
- Maintain records and perform basic online research at the direction of the DoPP
- Backup role in animal care, including managing supplies for animal health and safety
- Other tasks as assigned
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work outside in variable weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry tools over difficult terrain.
