The County of San Mateo, California is currently recruiting a Parks Director to oversee the County’s 23 parks and recreation areas spanning over 16,183 acres. Reporting to the County Manager, the Parks Director oversees operations, resource management, and planning for the County’s parks system, including urban and rural parks, a marine reserve, regional trails, a marina, and historic sites and buildings. With a budget of over $30 million and a staff of 71 (including an Assistant Director, Parks Superintendent, Natural Resources Manager, Senior Planner, Community Programs Specialist, Administrative Services Manager, and 51 rangers), the Director works closely with the County of San Mateo Parks Foundation, the Peninsula Open Space Trust, the Parks Commission, the Friends Groups, and many other partners and volunteers to meet the diverse recreational needs of County residents.

This position requires at least 5 years of responsible professional park management and development experience with at least 2 years of experience in a managerial capacity. Related education and areas of study will be reviewed in relation to the overall career experience of the candidate. The annual salary range for this position is $193,544 to $241,883.
