Position Title: Recreation Technician (Developed Recreation/Trails) Individual Placement – 480 Hour
Position Summary:
The Krassel Wilderness, Trails and Recreation Program of the Payette National Forest is recruiting one 480 Hour (12 weeks) Recreation Technician Individual Placement from May through August 2026, based on applicant's interest and availability. The incumbent will perform the duties of a General Forestry Aid in Recreation, assisting the Trails and Developed Recreation staff with trailhead and campground facilities maintenance and repair.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Developed Recreation involves campground maintenance like building picnic tables, replacing campfire rings, cleaning toilets, stocking toilet paper, installing and maintaining signage and fee envelopes. Some report writing, research, data collection, and data management may be required in assistance to program managers and crew leads. Specific project work will include the installation of various kiosks, new picnic tables, fire pits and grills and other small projects associated with the Developed Recreation monitoring programs.

Required Qualifications:
- Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
- U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
- Must pass a background/driver check
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Willingness to work as part of a small team
- Current driver's license.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience reading maps and attention to detail
- Experience backpacking and/or traveling in backcountry environments
- Trail work, landscaping, gardening, farm work, or facilities maintenance
- Team-oriented
- Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word
- Adobe Acrobat or other software for flyer development
- ArcGIS Pro
- Personal transportation
Duty Location:
Duties are performed on the Krassel Ranger District, Payette National Forest and primarily associated with the South Fork Salmon River corridor and the East Fork South Fork Salmon River corridor.
Terms of Employment:
One individual placement will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting May through August 2026 for a total of 12 Weeks. The individual placement will average 40 hours of labor per week, minus holidays. Individual placements are responsible for providing their own personal transportation and food. Housing may be provided.
Program Benefits:
Individual placements will earn $7,680 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis throughout the 12 weeks (480 Hours). The living allowance are taxable.
