PCEI AmeriCorps Restoration Coordinator

Project Sponsor: Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI)

Location: Palouse Nature Center (Moscow, ID) and surrounding area

Timeline: September 2026 to August 2027.  Volunteer will average between 35-40 hours per week, with a schedule to be determined by the site supervisor.

Service Description/Position Summary:

The Restoration Coordinator will lead restoration project work with supervision and direction from the Project Manager and collaboration with all PCEI staff. This position will provide coordination resources and direction to community volunteers completing restoration on new and ongoing location projects through service learning. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Restoration project coordination, implementation and tracking (planting, weed management, construction of BDAs/PALS, etc.)
  • Restoration project maintenance (irrigation, plant protection, weed management, structure repair, etc.)
  • Restoration project monitoring and development of reports for stakeholders
  • Lead and educate volunteers in restoration events and community outreach
  • Restoration volunteer and event tracking and supervision
  • Assist in development of restoration program plans and procedures

Ideal candidate:

  • Knowledge of watershed restoration Best Management Practices, especially planting, weed management, and construction of BDAs/PALS
  • Experience working outdoors doing physical labor and using a variety of tools and equipment, especially for restoration, conservation, forestry or another related field
  • Experience using scientific and technological tools for project mapping, tracking, monitoring, reporting, and organization
  • Experience and/or interest in Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration of Riverscapes
  • Recent college graduate, college gap year, entry-level professional, retired professional, or simply the right fit

Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication abilities
  • Experience organizing or coordinating groups or projects
  • Demonstrated time management and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated computer skills
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent or commit to earning one prior to receiving award.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must be able to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through PCEI.
  • Must complete and submit all necessary PCEI AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Must commit to and attend and complete all PCEI AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings, national service days, and the Serve Idaho Conference.
  • Must wear AmeriCorps uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.

Member Benefits Include:                                                                                                             

  • A taxable, monthly living allowance up to $22,200 distributed as 22 payments of approximately$1,009 each for an 11-month/1700-hour term.
  • Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award in the amount of $7,395 that can be used to repay qualified student loans or for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational, or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used.
  • Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable.)
