The Southern Group of State Foresters (SGSF) is seeking an experienced Policy Director to help advance federal policy priorities on behalf of the State Forestry Agencies serving 15 southern states and territories.

This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of federal policy and on-the-ground forest management, supporting the leaders responsible for stewarding some of the nation’s most productive forests and addressing issues ranging from wildfire and forest health to private landowner assistance and sustainable forest management.

As SGSF’s Policy Director, you’ll provide analysis of federal legislation, regulations, administrative actions, and related policy developments while working closely with State Foresters, congressional offices, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Association of State Foresters, and other national partners. You’ll conduct policy analysis and briefings, help identify emerging issues, and contribute to long-term strategies that build awareness and support for SGSF priorities.

Qualified candidates will have experience working on natural resource management policy issues at the federal or state level, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve results. Experience in forestry, natural resources, agriculture, or related policy areas is particularly valuable.
