The University of Montana, invites applications for a Pollinator Survey Assistant for the Center for Integrated Research on the Environment (CIRE). This position is located at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct standardized adult pollinator surveys, vegetation surveys, and habitat assessments using established scientific field protocols
- Identify common pollinator insects and flowering plants relevant to project objectives
- Collect, record, manage, and maintain accurate field data, notes, data sheets, and digital records to ensure data quality and integrity
- Utilize GPS units, mobile data collection platforms, and other field equipment to document survey observations
- Assist with field preparation, equipment maintenance, logistical support, and specialized sampling or survey activities as directed
- Collaborate effectively with project staff and field crews while working safely and completing assigned tasks independently when required
- Support additional research, monitoring, and project activities as needed

- A Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resources, Entomology, Botany, or a closely related field
- At least two (2) years of experience conducting ecological field surveys and collecting scientific data, including at least one (1) year of pollinator and plant identification experience
- Ability to clear a Department of Defense background screening and obtain visitor access to military installations
- Knowledge of ecological principles, pollinator biology, plant communities, habitat connectivity, and environmental science
- Strong skills in identifying pollinator species and plant species relevant to pollinator habitat and conservation
- Ability to accurately collect, record, and manage field data
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree (M.S.) in Ecology, Environmental Science, Entomology, Conservation Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field
- Experience conducting pollinator, vegetation, or wildlife surveys in the Midwestern United States
- Experience supporting ecological research, conservation, restoration, or monitoring projects
Position Details:
- Location: Scott Air Force Base, Illinois
- Work Schedule: Part-time, 0.5 FTE, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm: variable due to fieldwork, about 3 months (August 1st-October 31st).
