Job Type Paid Internship

Deadline Apr 19, 2026

SPRING 2026 RESTORATION FIELD CREW INTERNSHIP POSITIONS

General Internship Expectations

The Phoenix Conservancy (TPC) is hiring for paid internship positions for the spring 2026 season. Interns for TPC will receive direct experience and training with restoration, conservation, and social enterprise work through restoring endangered ecosystems, environmental outreach and communication, and participating in the dynamic growth of a young conservation nonprofit.

As a rapidly growing international conservation organization, we offer diverse experience opportunities emphasizing different aspects of our organization’s work, both in an online and fieldwork context.

To complete an internship, interns for The Phoenix Conservancy are expected to complete the following expectations, with training from TPC staff:

Experience Length: Complete 135 hours of cumulative work in their position

Professionalism: Meet with their TPC supervisor occasionally to check in on progress and attend TPC’s all-staff meetings

Breadth of Experience: Participate in at least 1 TPC project outside the scope of their specific role to increase experience breadth. This may include participation in field trips to other project sites, participation in website or social media development, project development, research, or a capstone project in line with TPC and an individual’s interests.

As a result of these standards, former interns are extremely competitive when applying for jobs after the completion of their internships. References and experiences gained from The Phoenix Conservancy have been cited as a direct reason by employers that former TPC interns were selected for jobs, some of which had more than 200 applicants. We therefore place high priority on the professional development of interns into high-quality, self-directed conservation professionals with diverse, valuable skill sets. Within The Phoenix Conservancy, applicants completing internships with higher levels of autonomy and responsibility may be invited to move into higher levels within the organization based on their performance.

These internships are largely field-based, with a minimum of 135 hours logged in active restoration field work. To be considered for a field-based internship position, candidates therefore should:

  • Be physically located in the vicinity of Pullman, WA OR Spokane, WA and able to work in the field in that region
  • Have reliable local transportation to travel within the city
  • Have some field experience through a combination of classwork, volunteer work, or other life experience
  • Be self-directed and able to competently work independently and under the supervision and direction of a field crew lead

Applicants should specify in their Cover Letter the position they are applying for, and how their relevant experience makes them a strong fit for an internship position with The Phoenix Conservancy.

The Phoenix Conservancy accepts resumes for all positions on a rolling basis. Applicants that may be interested in other positions are encouraged to submit a Cover Letter and CV/Resume at any time to careers@phoenixconservancy.org  to be notified of availability of future positions.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: The priority application deadline is March 30th (with earlier applicants receiving priority) and the final application deadline is April 24th. Candidates of interest will be invited to interview on a rolling basis. In the event that positions are filled at time of application, TPC anticipates similar internship positions becoming available for Fall 2026. Applicants wishing to be notified and considered for spring positions should state this preference in their application email and/or cover letter.

The application process follows the general timeline below:

  • Applicant submits Cover Letter and Resume detailing position, interests and skills to careers@phoenixconservancy.org, palouse@phoenixconservancy.org, and sblanco@phoenixconservancy.org.  Applications are reviewed, candidates of interest are invited to interview, and positions are open on a rolling basis until filled; earlier submissions therefore have a strong advantage.
  • TPC personnel will determine if the applicant will be invited to interview, and follow up to inform the applicant of the decision and to set a day and time for the interview, if applicable. Interviews generally take approximately 30 minutes. TPC personnel may conduct a follow-up interview with a different set of questions.
