Property overview:

The private property known as Bayfields is managed both for the benefit of wildlife as well as for the production of income from the sustainable harvesting of forest products. It includes a habitat complex of xeric sandhill scrub, longleaf/loblolly/slash pine/pond pine woodland, wet pine flatwoods, Atlantic white cedar plantations, bay forest and planted fields for waterfowl and upland game bird species. The property contains ecologically significant longleaf pine and wetland habitats, and is located within a larger landscape of natural forest, pocosin and managed timber habitats. The property contributes to a network of federal, state and private conservation lands in northern Bladen County. This includes a 1,770-acre conservation easement that was donated by the owners to The Nature Conservancy in 2007.
