This is the dream job for a qualified conservation biologist who wants to apply their education and experience to the longterm protection and management of endangered species in their natural habitats. The Preserve Manager (Panoche Valley Preserve) will co-manage this large (~25,000 acre) preserve that spans parts of Fresno and San Benito Counties, CA, and that is home to the San Joaquin kit fox. blunt-nosed leopard lizard, California tiger salamander, California condor, giant kangaroo rat, and a host of other rare plant and animal species. Management and protection is expressed across a wide range of activities -- biological and abiotic monitoring, short-term and long-range planning, vegetation management (various methods), documentation and data analysis, applied research, budgeting, outreach ... etc. This career position offers much opportunity to make a significant conservaiton impact, assist in recovery of endangered species, continue to grow professionally, and to work with a team of amazing conservation practitioners within a nonprofit context.
Given the large size and rural location of the Preserve, the Preserve Managers have access to a recently renovated onsite house with basic sleeping, meal preparation, and relaxation facilities. This can be used as needed during the work week (not as a main place of residence). This facility also provides some flexibility with respect to the Preserve Manager's home location -- which should be within reasonable distance of the Preserve but daily commuting is not necessary.
