The Program Director is a senior level position which leads and coordinates Families for a Livable Climate’s (FLC) core programs, community engagement, and movement-building efforts across Montana. This role is responsible for translating FLC’s strategic priorities into impactful, community-based programming - supporting volunteers, building partnerships, and facilitating opportunities for people to engage in meaningful climate action.

This is a highly relational and dynamic position that blends program leadership, community engagement, event facilitation, and strategic coordination. The Program Director works closely with the Executive Director, practicum student(s), volunteers, and community partners to grow FLC’s reach and deepen its impact.

This position also incorporates key outreach and communications functions, including event promotion, partner coordination, and supporting storytelling and engagement efforts across programs.

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Schedule: 32 hours per week
  • Compensation: Starting at $28/hour
  • Benefits: Paid Time Off, monthly health & wellness stipend, phone stipend
  • Location: Hybrid, based in Montana

This position requires regular travel within Montana, as well as evening and occasional weekend work to support community events and programming.

GEOGRAPHIC FOCUS:

FLC works across multiple communities in Montana. While responsibilities may shift based on organizational priorities, the anticipated allocation of time is approximately:

  • Missoula area: ~30%
  • Bozeman area: ~20–25%
  • Flathead region: ~20%
  • Bitterroot region: ~20%
  • Other communities / statewide efforts: ~10–15%

This includes time spent planning, coordinating, and supporting programming - not only time physically spent in each location.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Director’s work is divided across three main areas:

1. Program Leadership, Strategy & Implementation (50%)

  • Lead educational programs, workshops, and trainings
  • Implement FLC’s strategic plan
  • Develop systems to track impact and effectiveness
  • Help shape organizational direction and priorities

2. Community Engagement & Movement Building (30%)

  • Support volunteer Working Groups and Core Team
  • Recruit and develop volunteer leaders
  • Build partnerships and coalitions across Montana
  • Support outreach and event promotion

3. Nonprofit Administration, Development & Team Support (20%)

  • Supervise practicum students and interns
  • Assist with grant writing and reporting
  • Support budgeting and administrative systems

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

We are seeking someone with:

  • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit program management, community organizing, education, or related fields
  • Strong leadership, initiative, and strategic thinking skills
  • Experience translating ideas into concrete programs and measurable outcomes
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and relationship-building abilities
  • A passion for climate action and community-based change
