The Perry Institute for Marine Science (PIMS) is looking to employ a professional with a strong work ethic to build capacity for conservation education and outreach in The Bahamas within its local communities through the development of a Community Conservation Education and Action Program. The program is intended to assist local Bahamian conservation organizations by providing the tools, training and experience to foster a greater conservation ethic across the country that results in positive actions for people, wildlife and ecosystems and builds the next generation of Bahamian conservation leaders.

Following this vision the program will, (1) build capacity for conservation education and outreach in The Bahamas within local communities; (2) promote conservation education, awareness and action through the development of programs and behavior change strategies targeting students and key stakeholders and work with local partners to implement these programs; and (3) provide opportunities to engage conservation leaders in the Perry Institute's Reversing The Decline of Bahamian Coral Reefs (RTD) program. 

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • PhD or MSc/MRes in Social Science, Conservation Psychology or Conservation Education
  • 3 or more years of work experience in The Bahamas and/or small island developing countries
  • Expertise in designing, leading and evaluating environmental education programs
  • Dynamic and engaging public speaking skills
  • Experience working with students and adults
  • Strong organizational skills & problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direct supervision
  • Comfortable working in remote locations
  • Competency with MS Office Suite and data analysis
  • Report writing & budgeting
  • Supervising staff

  • Awards in teaching excellence, social science, or conservation psychology/education
  • Peer-reviewed publications
  • Grant writing & fundraising
  • Certified SCUBA Diver
  • First Aid Certification
  • Small boat handling skills
