Job Description

Lead the conceptualization, design, funding, and implementation of reforestation, stream restoration, meadow building, and ecological consulting projects. to achieve the goals of state, federal, and partner programs. Manage and grow a project portfolio while directing Field Managers and Field Leads in and out of the field. Become a trusted partner for clients throughout the region.

Work Balance

Work consists of about 30% in-field project oversight and participation and 70% client development and project administration. Most projects take place in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Virginia. Home most evenings, with multi-day trips both in and out of state, and a few multi-week trips each year.

Requirements

This senior-level, permanent role calls for a broad range of experiences in habitat design, soil and hydrology restoration, streambank restoration, large-scale plantings, and invasive species management. Experience in applied research, team building, and budget management is also highly valued.

The successful candidate is a person that has decided they want to dedicate at least five years to bringing exciting, technically-challenging projects to life, building a network of collaborators, and working hard in the field. The successful candidate should also feel comfortable with playing a public-facing role on committees, at conferences, and in seminars.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the process of assessing, designing, budgeting, proposing, and directing restoration projects for your region or area of specialty
  • Grow the number and quality of relationships you manage
  • Communicate proactively with partners, prospects, and clients to schedule meetings, perform site assessments, and craft proposal documents. Be an excellent communicater and adhere to project timelines, documentation requirements, and keep everyone informed
  • Participate in private and public events, such as introducing the company and yourself to new potential partners, making presentations at conferences and open meetings, and representing the company in various forums 
  • Manage the ecological, business, and financial outcomes for all your projects, including but not limited to satisfying design objectives, contractual obligations, and other customer requirements
  • Contribute to the company’s ecological knowledgebase through the accurate and regular use of company software, particularly Collector™ and Evaluate™
  • Create an maintain projects using our Project Management software
  • Enforce and contribute to the creation of policies, procedures, and training documents and materials as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Actively participate in company communication systems and platforms, including but not limited to email, Teams, apps, and others as assigned.
  • Maintain active licenses and certifications.
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications (each will be tested during the interview process):

  • Ability to identify native regional plant species and their proper habitats
  • Ability to identify invasive species and prescribe the best means of suppressing them
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools safely and efficiently
  • Ability to effectively use and navigate Microsoft Office Software
  • Current industry-related licenses, certificates, and trainings
