Job Description

This is a fantastic new role for a special person. We are looking for someone to anchor our regional involvement and activities with partners to realize the reforestation and afforestation ambitions of the state of NY. In this role, you will form close working relationships with regional conservancies, foresters, nurseries, ecologists, and botanists. Specifically, you will help to develop robust seed collection networks, perform a wide range of ecological studies, become expert with our in-house technologies, and learn ArcheWild methodologies related to both ecological restoration, afforestation, and native plant propagation.

Over time, we will train you to lead the conceptualization, design, funding, and implementation of reforestation projects, stream restoration, meadow building, and ecological consulting to help you participate in achieving the landowners' goals. You will work closely with our Program Managers to become a trusted partner for clients throughout the region.

Work Balance

Initially, the work consists of about 70% in-field activities related to seed network building and ecological analysis and about 30% working with partners to understand their priorities and coordinate our collaboration. The primary focus will be the Appalachian region in NY, VT, and PA.

Requirements

This senior-level, permanent role calls for a broad range of experiences in ecological study and analysis, seed collecting and seed network building, reforestation and afforestation ecology, and native nursery operations familiarity. Experience in applied research, field data collection, and the use of advanced technologies is highly valued.

The successful candidate is a person that has decided they want to dedicate at least five years to mastering the science of reforestation throughout the Appalachians, starting in NY. The successful candidate will feel excited about building a network of collaborators and working hard in the field. The successful candidate should also feel comfortable with playing a public-facing role on committees, at conferences, and in seminars.
