Join the UNR Rangeland Ecology Lab as a full-time Rangeland Ecologist, supporting ongoing rangeland and restoration ecology research under Principal Investigator Lucas Phipps, Ph.D. This position offers hands-on field science, co-authorship on peer-reviewed publications, and the chance to grow your career while working on Nevada's beautiful high desert landscapes.

The Rangeland Ecologist assists with field set-up of experimental studies for multi-disciplinary rangeland ecology research and collects data and samples from those studies. Projects may include monitoring and restoration of Great Basin rangelands, disturbance ecology, landscape ecological modeling, targeted grazing, post-fire rehabilitation, and riparian ecology and restoration research. The position reports to the Principal Investigator within the Department of Agriculture, Veterinary, and Rangeland Sciences (AVRS).

Key Responsibilities

• Collect statistical data and samples; maintain field databases and records
• Set up experimental studies for multi-disciplinary rangeland ecology research projects
• Assist with additional data collection, including supporting experiments and studies
• Conduct statistical analysis of research data
• Write annual reports for the Principal Investigator
• Co-author peer-reviewed manuscripts with the Principal Investigator
• Utilize ArcGIS and R statistical software for landscape-scale modeling

Qualifications

Related Experience

• Background in rangeland ecology and management, environmental science, natural resource science, plant ecology, or a related field
• Experience with field sampling in remote locations, plant identification, and transect methods for vegetation and soils.
• Data management experience and organization is strongly desired

Certification & Licensure

• Valid Nevada State Driver's License, or ability to obtain one within the required time period, to drive a State vehicle

Knowledge & Skills

• Plant and soil sampling, collection techniques, and lab analysis methods
• Taxonomy and identification of Great Basin and  vegetation
• Familiarity with state-and-transition models
• Proficiency with DIMA, Excel, Access, Word, and Visio
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic first aid
