Rangeland Field Technician

The Rangeland Center at the University of Idaho is HIRING 8 field technicians for the 2026 field season to collect vegetation and soil data at field sites throughout southern Idaho in collaboration with NRCS-NRI and BLM restoration monitoring initiatives.
- Earn a competitive wage – Pay ranges from $18-$22/hour (daily per diem provided*)
- Work 12 weeks of summer (May 26th – August 14th) with training week (May 26th – 29th)
- Housing provided: Sturdy, weather-proof canvas tents on wooden platforms plus an outdoor kitchen & patio.
- Great summer work schedule of 4, 10+ hour days/week plus occasional overtime.
- Training provided – desire to learn and a good work ethic is a must!
General Requirements
- Rangeland plant identification skills required.
- Strong desire for experience in rangeland assessment and related work.
- Maintain high integrity while collecting data.
- Enjoy working with other people and must be a team player.
- Safe driver and comfortable operating an ATV on primitive roads.
- Be comfortable working in teams in remote field locations
- Expect traveling long distances each week and experiencing primitive camping.
- Be physically fit to hike across rugged terrain carrying a pack.
* $58/day per diem available when work is > 50mi from base location
