About Us
SnapLands was founded in 2017 with the mission to restore a profitable path towards, and proof of, land restoration. We are a rapidly expanding team of applied land managers and scientists with a passion for regenerative ranching, botany, land stewardship, agriculture, and ecological restoration. We serve a growing network of land managers across millions of acres and are committed to being both grounded and innovative. At SnapLands, we apply proven methods to provide land managers with the best possible information about their land while supporting sound decision making and profitable land stewardship.
If you want to spend time working across epic landscapes, have a good sense of adventure and appreciation for diversity, and a desire to be on the front lines of land restoration, ranching, and ecosystem services, we would love to hear from you.
Position Overview
Rangeland Stewardship Field Technicians travel throughout the Western U.S. conducting ecological monitoring on working ranches and other managed lands. The role combines field data collection, plant identification, navigation, producer interaction, data management, and field logistics. Plant identification is an important part of the role. Applicants with experience identifying Western grasses, forbs, shrubs, and invasive species are especially encouraged to apply.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Conduct rangeland monitoring and collect accurate vegetation, soil surface, forage, photographic, and other field data
- Identify common Western rangeland plants and use appropriate resources for unfamiliar species
- Enter, review, and upload monitoring data according to established protocols
- Assist with site planning, field logistics, equipment preparation, and trip readiness
- Navigate remote ranches using GPS and mobile mapping tools
- Safely operate or learn to operate 4WD vehicles, ATVs, and UTVs
- Communicate professionally with ranchers, land managers, teammates, and SnapLands staff
- Follow field and safety protocols and contribute to basic QA/QC and monitoring program improvement
What to Expect
This is a travel intensive seasonal position. Technicians should expect extended time away from home, long field and driving days, occasional weekend work, variable schedules, rugged terrain, changing weather, and remote locations with limited cell service or facilities.
Field rotations are generally approximately two weeks on duty followed by one week off, although schedules may vary based on project needs. Technicians typically work in small field crews and may stay in hotels, ranch accommodations, camping locations, or other field lodging.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in rangeland ecology, agriculture, natural resources, or land stewardship
- Reliable, organized, adaptable, and able to communicate professionally
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small traveling field crew
- Able to work outdoors for long periods, travel extensively, and perform repeated physical field tasks
- Valid driver’s license
- Comfortable using or learning GPS, mobile mapping, digital data collection, and basic computer systems
Preferred
- Western plant identification experience
- Rangeland, vegetation, soil, wildlife, agricultural, or ecological field experience
- Ranching, livestock, or grazing management experience
- GPS, GIS, or backcountry navigation experience
- Remote field or camping experience
- Leadership or mentoring experience
Crew Lead Opportunities
SnapLands expects to fill a limited number of seasonal Crew Lead assignments from the same hiring pool. Crew Leads will take on additional responsibility for day to day field execution, technician support, protocol consistency, plant identification, safety, and field readiness. Applicants are not required to pursue a Crew Lead role. Interest will be discussed during interviews, and additional responsibilities and compensation will be agreed upon before accepting the position.
