A READY Crew Member is an essential part of the team delivering environmental services in the field. Crew Members assist with the installation and maintenance of conservation landscapes, rain gardens, and other stormwater practices, as well as stream restoration work and debris removal from waterways.
Crew Members work in teams under the direction of a Crew Leader, Program Foreman, and Operations staff. Through hands-on experience, they learn how to collaborate effectively while implementing stormwater solutions across the Chesapeake Bay region. Participants are also introduced to career pathways in environmental and stormwater industries through training and networking opportunities.
Through the READY program, Howard EcoWorks provides training in native and invasive plant identification, environmental restoration construction techniques, and comprehensive tool use. Participants also receive professional development support, including resume building and interview preparation, while gaining exposure to multiple sectors within the environmental field.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Work on a team to accomplish project objectives.
- Construction and maintenance of environmental landscaping practices such as rain gardens and conservation landscapes, tree planting, and more.
- Implement landscaping practices including planting, excavating, mulching, weeding, etc.
- Properly use, store, and care for all equipment, tools, and materials.
- Participate in professional development and industry exposure training sessions.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be between 16 - 25 years of age.
- Must be able to commute to our facility at 14270 Burntwoods Rd, Glenwood, MD, 21738 each day.
- Able and willing to work in a variety of outdoor settings, including forests and streams.
- Ability to work with a team as well as independently.
- Can physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds repetitively throughout the day.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Passion and/or interest in the outdoors
- Previous experience working outdoors or in landscaping
- Flexible with changes in day to day tasks
Wage: $16.00/hr
Benefits:
- Paid sick leave - 1 hour of Sick and Safe Leave accumulated for every 30 hours worked, accumulating up to 40 hours per year. Accrual starts on the first day of employment, and one is eligible to use Sick and Safe Leave after the completion of 30 days of employment.

Job Timeline:
- Start Date: 6/22/26

Additional Information:
- This is a full-time, hourly, seasonal position.
- Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including a half-hour unpaid lunch break and 2 paid 15-minute breaks per day.
- There are no paid holidays, however, July 4th will be observed.
- Weekend work opportunities may become available, but are not mandatory.
- Work in the field is weather-dependent, which may result in shortened work weeks in the event of extreme weather. Indoor training and professional development opportunities may be offered on bad-weather days, when possible.
